FAQs

Below is a list of frequently asked questions, however if you don’t see what you are looking for please contact us and we will do our best to assist:

How old do I need to be to rent a vehicle?

All drivers must be between 25-75 years of age, drivers aged between 21-24 and over 75 may be considered at Fourways’ discretion and a surcharge may be applicable. Please call us for more information.

Do I have to pay a deposit?

Yes we will take £100 deposit on a credit or debit card, refundable on safe return of the vehicle in the same condition as when rented.

What documents do I need to provide?

You will need to bring your photo card driving licence (or paper licence if you still have the old type) plus two further forms of ID, one bearing your signature such as your passport or a credit card and another as proof of address such as a current utility bill or bank statement.  As the paper counterpart was abolished in June 2015 you will also need to provide us with a one time access code in order for us to verify your licence for any driving endorsements.  Please note this is still needed even if you have an old style licence as although valid they are no longer updated to reflect recent driving endorsements.

The access code can be generated online at https://www.gov.uk/view-driving-licence and you will need your driving licence number, National Insurance number and postcode to hand.  The code is valid for 21 days, please generate it in advance of your rental and bring it with you when you collect your vehicle.  If you have any queries about this process please do not hesitate to call us and we will talk you through it.

Can I hire with a foreign driving licence?

Usually yes, we will need to take details of the licence in advance and see the original, as well as the appropriate ID, at the time of rental. Please call us to discuss your needs.

Can I pay extra to reduce my excess?

No, unfortunately it is not possible to pay extra to reduce the excess.

Can I add another driver?

Yes, multiple drivers may be added to the rental agreement for a small surcharge, we will need to see all photo card licences and verify them for endorsements as explained in the section above on ‘What documents do I need to provide?’.

Is there an excess mileage charge?

Our vehicles are subject to mileage charges of 200 miles per day, if you are planning a long journey please speak to us in advance. Mileage over 200 miles per day is chargeable at 15p per mile.

Can I choose a particular make and model?

Vehicles can be booked by group rather than specific make and model, however if you have any specific needs please contact us and we will do our best to accommodate you.

Is there a minimum or maximum rental period?

Yes this is usually one day (24 hours) but subject to availability we may be able to accommodate a half day rental, please speak to one of our team. Long term rentals are available on a rolling 28 day basis, again we would be happy to talk to you about your needs.

What happens if I have an accident?

If you have an accident you should:
– Make the vehicle secure
– Tell the police straight away if anyone is injured or if there is disagreement as to who is responsible
– Do not admit liability
– Take name, telephone numbers and addresses of all parties involved and any witnesses
– Take pictures of vehicles involved if possible
– Call our offices as soon as possible so we can arrange for you to complete an accident report form

What happens if I break down?

All of our vehicles have full breakdown cover, in the unlikely event that you do break down the relevant breakdown numbers will be clearly displayed inside the vehicle. Alternatively you can contact our office for assistance.

Can I take the rental vehicle abroad?

Yes you can take our vehicles to most European countries, we will need to provide you with certain documents, enhanced break down cover and the appropriate insurance cover which will attract a small surcharge and will need to be booked in advance, please call us for more details.

I have points on my licence – can I rent a vehicle?

Minor licence endorsements are accepted, more major endorsements will need insurance clearance in advance of renting. If you have any endorsements on your licence we would ask that you advise us in advance of your rental.

Can I return the vehicle out of hours?

No – all vehicles must be returned to us in office hours so we can carry out a post rental inspection. If you do decide to leave a vehicle unattended you will remain responsible for it until the vehicle is checked back into our depot. We will endeavour to be as flexible as we can – for example we may be able to arrange local delivery or collection – please speak to a member of our team.
