Abolition of the paper counterpart licence
From 8th June 2015 the paper counterpart to the UK photocard driving licence will not be valid and will no longer be issued by the DVLA. ‘Old style’ UK paper based licences will still be valid, however they will no longer be annotated with endorsements.
Therefore from this date onwards we will be changing the way we verify UK driving licence holders’ details, in line with recommended guidance from our trade body the BVRLA website (British Vehicle Rental and Leasing Association).
We will be using ‘Share Driving Licence’ which is the new online service from the DVLA for validation of a driving record. If you are hiring a vehicle from us you will need to log on in advance to: https://www.gov.uk/view-driving-licence where you will be able to generate a one-time pass code by entering your driving licence number, National Insurance number and postcode.
You will need to bring this code with you when you arrive to collect your rental vehicle, as well as your photocard licence and one other form of ID such as a passport. We will then be able to log on and use the code to verify your licence and confirm any endorsements. Please note this code is still needed even if you have an old style licence as although valid they are no longer updated to reflect recent driving endorsements.
If you have any queries about this new process please do not hesitate to call our team on 01948 661327 and we would be happy to walk you through the process.
