A Catch Up With Evelyn Jones
A few months back we announced that we were proudly sponsoring local women’s cricketer Evelyn Jones. We caught up with her to see how the season went, discussed the highlights and spoke about her exciting plans for the future.
Have a read of what Evelyn’s been up to!
“The cricket season is over, which means we are pretty much straight back into training! My club team made the women’s club national finals, so we didn’t finish playing until mid September. I had a great season and managed to score two hundreds and finish with an average of 83 for Staffordshire, as well as topping the run chart of Division 2 of the county championship. Having had a very busy playing and training schedule since March, I had a two week break from everything which gave me a chance to go on holiday. Upon arrival home, I was straight back in the gym preparing myself for the winter ahead (lots of fitness training before Christmas comes with all of the sweets!!)
I have been re-selected for the England Academy winter squad for the second year running. Two weeks ago we had our first Academy session of the winter – a team building and leadership weekend away at RAF Cranwell in Lincolnshire. This was a very insightful couple of days and I even got to fly a plane on a simulator! Last week I attended our first S&C camp (Strength and Conditioning) at the National Cricket Performance Centre, which is based at Loughborough University. This is where all of the England cricket squads carry out their training.
Looking towards the future and the rest of the winter, I am training hard to get myself selected for a couple of tours that are scheduled for the England Academy. The first tour is to India in December for a batting and spin camp, which is two weeks long just before Christmas. The other is a pre-season tour to play in a tri-series in Sri Lanka against the hosts and Australia’s Shooting Stars (their women’s academy). This will get us all ready and prepared in time for the cricket season back in England, which starts two weeks after we get back from Sri Lanka.”
We’re so pleased at how well Evelyn’s season went and we send our congratulations to her for being reselected for the England Academy winter squad! There are lots of things here to look forward to and we’re excited to hear about them. Keep up the good work, Evelyn!
Be sure to keep up-to-date with Evelyn’s progress on our blog.
